I received the same call/message and when I selected 1 as the Mediacom account holder it stated the call was regarding equipment I have not returned to them after cancelling service. For me it was a legitimate call as I haven't returned their cable boxes yet.
I cancelled my service have had my services installed and have called they 3 times and they never have anything in their system when I speak with them about the call. That was 2 months ago.
Says they have a refund and press1
Calls multiple times a day with the same message: "Hello this is an urgent call from Media calm this is not a sales or telemarketing call. Please call our office as soon as possible at 1-888-299-9647. We are open 24 hours a day seven days a week. Again the number is 1-888-299-9647 Media Com thank you for your prompt response to this request." I am not even a Mediacom customer anymore.
