This is a legit debt collector. They're not trying to scam you (any more than a debt collector typically does). The reason you keep thinking it's "a scam" is bc they're asking for you to "verify" personal information. The collectors are too d*mned stupid to understand what the word "verify" means. They provide YOU the information and you tell them if it's correct. They won't do that, though. What they actually mean is they want YOU to give them the information so they can match it with the info they ALREADY HAVE to make sure they're on the phone with the right person before they start disclosing private information about a debt. Regardless, I'd never give them any of that information from a call I didn't place myself. Just answer the phone, when a real person talks, tell them to quit calling and hang up. FDCPA says they can't try to make contact again for 7 days. And, no, telling them to quit calling won't work and they don't have to, according to law.
