Same as the script cited above: Hi, this is Jessica Peterson and I'm calling in reference to your federal student loan. I need to discuss your repayment options. There have been some new changes that have taken effect so if you could please just give me a call back the number is 866-430-0440, and when you call back it would really help if you would have this reference number handy. Your reference number is xxxxx. Thank you.
1, I have never had a student loan, so the call is obviously a scam. 2, the callback number (when you go through a few prompts) identifies the outfit as "Student Loans of America," which is a limited liability company in San Diego.
3, the unsolicited call I received was on my cell, in violation of federal law. 4, when I called back (w/ their reference no.) to check out the apparent scam, the rep said she would need my cell number to take it off their list. I said, "you've already got it - you called me." Yeah, right. My opinion: complete scam.

Received a rather interesting call from someone who said that they were part of the Social Security benefits group trying to confirm who I was and how to apply for benefits. After we were abruptly disconnected before any exchange of information was given I called back the number found that they are scammers under the title of NATIONAL BENEFITS not related or part of the Social Security and are phishing for information, do not give them anything and hang up and block this number as they are already reported to the FTC regarding this issue.
